The Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments - Northern Ireland

There is a separate post of Commissioner for Public Appointments in Northern Ireland whose role and responsibilities are similar to the objectives and procedures of the Commissioners for England and Wales and Scotland. OCPANI was officially set up following the Nolan Report in 1995 in order to monitor, report and advise on appointments to some 72 public bodies in Northern Ireland. Felicity Huston officially took up post on 1 August 2005 after being selected by the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Rt.Hon Peter Hain MP, through a public recruitment competition.
